IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 29, Louisville’s “Home Opener” is Site of Zipp OVCX Round 2
Louisville, KY, USA: There’s been a lot of talk over the past decade about keeping cycling on the straight and narrow so that there’s a level playing field, but the folks behind Sunday’s Tour de Louisville cyclocross in Kentucky apparently haven’t been listening. “There’s pretty much nothing that’s straight, flat and level on this course,” says Duane Walker, one of the evil masterminds on BikeClicks.com/Team Louisville behind the October 4 race. Steven Webster adds, “Terrain changes here are intense. It's hard, it's technical and we love it!”
Watching the pre-ride video of the course on BikeClicks.com is proof enough that these guys aren’t kidding. The hills look steep even on video, a medium that has the notorious effects of making people look 10 pounds heavier and inclines 50% flatter.
The Tour de Louisville is the year’s second race on the burgeoning Zipp OVCX Tour. Last week’s opening race in Cincinnati saw an increase in ridership of over 61% from a year ago, with 114 Novice riders alone. With the natural early-Autumn beauty of Louisville’s Fisherman’s Park, a challenging course design that is completely visible from a single hilltop picnic location and a rabid local cyclocross community, expectations are high for a repeat performance at the Louisville home-opener.
While Fisherman’s Park is an undeniably beautiful location for a cyclocross race, BikeClicks.com/Team Louisville has been dedicated to turning it into a memorable race course. In only its second season, the venue has already developed a reputation as the hardest, lung busting leg burning course on the circuit. And, according to those who have pre-ridden the course, it will exceed the expectations of riders who thought last year was a tough course. Steven Webster sums it up nicely, “It's hard, it’s off-camber, and it will piss-off the roadies and the off-roadies equally - which means it'll be a bitchin' race.”
