Hello cyclocross friends!

IMPORTANT: WE’RE GOING BACK TO 2025 CALLUP, STAGING and START PROCEDURES
The category staging, start and reporting changes we made had a serious flaw we did not anticipate, and we need to go back to how things worked in 2025.
This change is in effect for Brookside and all remaining 2026 OVCX Races.
>> The OVCX Race Day Schedule & Series Rules are up to date https://ovcx.com/series-info/ … but if you want more details, read below: <<
The problem: We overlooked the minimum CrossResults points threshold. CR requires at least 6 finishers to generate CR points, and nearly half of the OVCX’s 26 categories were under those for Carter and Harbin. CrossResults points power callups for the OVCX and the majority of US CX races, making them very important to racers. We must have CrossResults points, and so we can’t continue with reporting or starting organized solely by category. We apologize for the oversight!
We heard a lot of great feedback – and ultimately, we made a mistake that must be corrected, so…from OVCX #3 Brookside and on:
- we’ll be moving back to the 2025 callups, staging and start processes, and …
- will be reporting results to CrossResults and USA Cycling by “wave whistles”.
What this means is: every category listed under the same time on the OVCX race day schedule is one start (“wave whistle”). They will be called up together and ordered by CrossResults, and then started at the same time. Each “wave whistle” is then reported to CrossResults and USA Cycling.
For example: Wave 5 2:55pm Cat 4 Men / Cat 4 Men 40/50/60+ would be grouped together, sorted by CrossResults points, called up and then started on the same whistle, and reported together for CrossResults points. OVCX Series Points will still be assigned by category.
So: you are racing against those in your wave start for CrossResults points. You are only racing those in your category for OVCX Series points.
For more information: the Race Day Schedules and Series Rules here are accurate to our 2025 processes: https://ovcx.com/series-info/
The stuff that is staying the same:
- The OVCX Series category standings (which are scored by category) remain unaffected.
- We are still keeping the starting gaps between “wave whistles” as short as safely possible to reduce lapped traffic.
- We are still keeping the number of scored races to 6 for the overall series.
- UCI Weekends (Kings CX, Major Taylor) and the OVCX Finale CX Revolution will receive a 1.25x points bonus
- CrossResults will remain where we host our OVCX Series scoring.
We understand that the 2025 system was not perfect – but in the interest of consistency and the CrossResults points everyone want, we need to revert WILL NOT BE MAKING FURTHER CHANGES for 2026. You are welcome to provide feedback for consideration for later seasons – and we hope you do! Email board@ovcx.com.
Finally: we are working with our Race Directors and USA Cycling Officials to ensure that everyone is on the same page at each race.
Again, apologies for the confusion and any messiness in the results – we moved too quickly – we’re a newly formed 100% volunteer board and still learning. And we learned y’all care a lot about ‘cross, just like us. 🥹
Thanks for the patience and understanding!
CARTER AND HARBIN RESULTS
Carter CX 2026 results have been reverted to be reported by CATEGORY to CrossResults and USA Cycling, to respect the rules that were in effect that day and how they were staged and started.
Harbin Park 2026 Results starts varied, so will be reported to CrossResults according to how they were staged and started:
Wave 1: Scored by category. Staged by category and started with 10 second gaps.
Wave 2: Scored by whistle. Boys 13-14 and U13 together > Girls 13-14 and U13 together
Wave 3: Scored by whistle. Mens SS > Mens Novice > combined Girls 15-18, Women’s 4 Novice and Women’s 4/Novice Masters.
Wave 4: Scored by whistle. Men 1/2/3 > Men 1/2/3 40/50/60 > Mens SS.
Wave 5: Scored by category. Race was staged Mens 4 > Men 4 40+ > Men 4 50+ > Men 4 60+ > All racers started on the same whistle which in this case is a “0 second gap”
Reminder: we are working with our Race Directors and USA Cycling Officials to ensure consistent start per the rules here.
